The Highest Devotion
The Conclusion of the Sixth Chapter of the Bhagavad Gita
In chapter six of the Bhagavad Gita detailed guidance is given on meditation practice. In a quiet place, on a suitable seat, the seeker is to practise equanimity, stilling the mind, and focusing on Self, the inner light of awareness. This is to be done persistently and regularly, patiently putting aside distractions.
The pupil says: ‘ I cannot find this steady equanimity, because of the restlessness of the mind. The mind is restless, turbulent, strong and obstinate. I think it is as hard to control as the wind.’ The teacher agrees that the mind is restless and hard to constrain. But, he says, the mind can be restrained, by practice and indifference.
