The Way to the Goal of Life
Part of a lecture given by Hari Prasad Shastri
I offer you some practical teachings that, if applied in daily life, will enable you to discover the highest Good in the mind itself.
There are two worlds: the external world extended and divided by time and space, and the inner world of thoughts, emotions, ideals, volition and imagination. Yet there is also a third world, the world of pure light and peace. The third world is the absolute Reality, and the other two worlds are the shadows of that world.
The individual soul has entered into the material world in order to fulfil an ultimate purpose. This supreme task is to acquire mental tranquillity and practise of great virtue and devotion to the Reality, which is indicated by the word Truth in philosophy, and God in religion.
Our thoughts and actions are expressions of energy. That energy can be converted into the peace and light of final illumination. If we live to this end, we live successfully, and we make an exit from this life, having learned the supreme lesson: verily, God, or Truth, is all. For the sage realises: ‘Kham Brahman’—All is intrinsically the Absolute, and nothing else has independent existence. This is the aim and the object of our life.
